Biography
Gian Luca Marcialis is associate professor of computer engineering at University of Cagliari (Italy). He is the founder and leader of the PRA Lab’s Biometric Unit. Prof. Marcialis co-authored more than one hundred papers on biometric recognition, presentation attack detection, facial recognition in forensics, with leading figures of the statistical and structural pattern recognition community. The Biometric Unit also maintains a strong connection with national and international institutions and private and public companies to provide the technological transfer of scientific innovation to their products on the market. Prof. Marcialis has (co-)chaired the eighth editions International Fingerprint Liveness Detection Competition since 2009 (). Recently, the Bullybuster project (http://www.bullybuster.unina.it), whose Prof. Marcialis is co-PI, has been included in the top 100 wideworld projects solving problems related to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by the International Research Center on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO (IRCAI).
