A brief introduction to forensic science — definitions – forensic process – casework – RD&I – education – quality
The first lecture will briefly introduce forensic science, providing the necessary definitions and then presenting the different steps of the forensic process (recovery, analysis, interpretation and reporting) and the underlying inference model. Then it will develop on the core activities of a forensic institute such as the NFI (forensic casework, R&D, education/dissemination and quality assurance) using practical examples. Finally, it will present current international forensic initiatives: the European 20230 agenda for forensic research and the new ISO/IEC 21043 forensic science draft international standard.
