A brief introduction to forensic science — definitions – forensic process – casework – RD&I – education – quality
The first lecture will introduce the forensic science discipline, providing the necessary definitions and presenting the different steps of the forensic process (recovery, analysis, interpretation and reporting) as well as the underlying inference model. Then it will develop on the core activities of a forensic institute such as the NFI: forensic casework, research, development and innovation (RD&I), education/dissemination and quality assurance, using practical examples. Finally, it will present current international forensic initiatives: the European 2030 agenda for forensic research and the new ISO/IEC 21043 forensic science international standard.
